In a disco atmosphere between Saturday Night Fever and Mamma Mia, the 6th edition of the Pimp my Movie festival took place on March 16 at the Sorbonne Nouvelle.
Pimp my Movie has a particular principle: it is not a call for professionally completed works, but rather for projects by young filmmakers who do not have many resources and who do not yet fully master post-production. The goal of the festival is to offer them visibility and personalized support/training through its various awards.
The short films selected by the official selection:
- Wart road trip by Ariane Chopani (documentary): Mauve and Chloé go on a mini road trip in Brittany to visit Grandma Jeannine, who will help them in their quest: to find the sacred lake that once made a wart disappear so that it can take care of Mauve's.
- Her life as an artist by Nawoo Baek (documentary): Eun-joo is a Korean artist living in France. She speaks little French and juggles jobs while nurturing her dreams of being an artist.
- Memories by Lina Lounadi (documentary): The sound and visual memories of a trip to Algeria intertwine.
- A crocodile on the ceiling by Emma Piolatto (fiction) : Jo dreams of crocodiles and jellyfish that she observes in her bath or in the sky with her diving goggles. She struggles to resurface and her father, absorbed by his worries, does not know how to pull her out of this aquatic universe.
- Oasis of Yuri Téoulé (fiction) : After a crash, Léon wakes up alone in the desert. He sets out in search of the ocean. But is it really the ocean he desires? What will he do once faced with the waves?
- Shapeshifter by Salma Tebani : Model, actor, and babysitter, Aldo has the art of switching from one role to another, and the same goes for his appearance. Backstage during a performance, we follow his transformation with eyeshadow, rhinestone fake nails, and studded heels.
- Blueberry Pie by Sam Bertrand (fiction) : Ana goes to a party. She meets a stranger and spends the night getting lost in the city with him.
To the rhythm of the music, the jury has given its deliberation :
. The Winner Takes It All Award : the Grand Prize of the INA with a reward of a training of choice worth up to €1600 was awarded by Vincent Lochmann, head of the Studies and Pedagogy department of INA Campus, to Emma Piolatto for A Crocodile on the Ceiling.
The poetry and dreaminess of childhood presented in this short film distinguished it from the others. Its narration and aesthetics engulf us in Jo's universe: kites become jellyfish and the sea calls to us.
. Hit Parade Award : the audience award with a screening at the Sorbonne Nouvelle film club and a year subscription to Cinetek, awarded to Sam Bertrand for Blueberry Pie.
The lightness and melancholy of this love story, chase and wandering of two young people, has won the hearts of the audience.
. Saturday Night Fever Award : screenplay award with a subscription to the Adobe suite. Awarded by the student jury to Emma Piolatto for A Crocodile on the Ceiling.
We follow Jo in the imaginary aquatic world that serves as her refuge and gradually takes her far from reality.
. Disco Award : sound award with a 2 days of sound mixing with the Pom’Zed studio. Awarded by director and editor Coline Beuvelet and Florette Grimault, in charge of partnerships and digital communication at the Short Film Agency, to Yuri Téoulé for Oasis.
Leon's desert crossing is accompanied by the crackling voice of the woman who haunts him. An acoustic version of Goodbye, the theme song of the series Dark, embraces his wandering in the desert and his desire.
. Flashdance Award : photography award with a day of color grading with GUMP post-production. Awarded by producer Elsa Marouani and director Stéphanie Halfon to Nawoo Baek for Her Artist's Life.
The camera has a bias in the way it shows the different aspects of Eun-joo's daily life. It follows her in the rhythm of her jobs, in her creative expression, and in her anger that she burns through small origami where she writes her hate.
